Leaving Shangri-La

I had a very unique experience regarding Elsie. We were to get together for lunch. I met her at her office. The front wall of her office was glass. I could see her through the glass talking on the phone. I stood in the hall just looking at her. She was focused on her phone call. As I watched her appearance started to change. Slowly I watched her age. Her hair turned grey. Her face wrinkled, the skin lost its luster. Her arms grew thinner. Her hair turned white. I watched her age from 40 to 80. I wasn’t even on anything. Then the old Elsie dissolved into the current Elsie who noticed me in the hall and waved. I shook my head to clear my thoughts and waved back. The memory of the old Elsie was bright in my mind. I smiled as I looked at her. I never mentioned it. I knew she wouldn’t know what to make of it. I didn’t know what to make of it except I knew it was special. It was too bad she was a fake muse. In my next life I would do things differently.
